ChefTop Plus or One: Which Unox Combi Oven Do You Need?

Choose ChefTop Plus for a busy kitchen with a varied menu, and ChefTop One for a set menu with a chef who sets the cooking. Here's what separates them.

What is the difference between ChefTop Plus and ChefTop One?

Both are Unox ChefTop MIND.Maps combi ovens. Both steam, roast and combine the two, wash themselves after service and store 384 programs on a 9.5-inch touchscreen. The difference is how much of the cooking the oven does for you. On Plus, the oven can run the cooking and adjust it as it goes. On One, your chef sets the cooking, and can save it as a program to repeat.

Size won't settle it. The 5-tray Plus and the 5-tray One have the same footprint, 750 x 783 x 675 mm, and nearly the same electrical rating, at 9.4 kW and 9.3 kW.

When should you choose ChefTop Plus?

Plus earns its place when the oven has to keep up with the kitchen rather than the other way round. Choose it if:

  • Your menu changes or covers a lot of ground. CHEFUNOX has over 300 automatic programs, so a dish cooks properly without someone working out the settings first.
  • Different dishes go in together during service. MULTI.Time manages up to 10 cooking processes at once and tells you when each one is due out.
  • Different people run the oven. ADAPTIVE.Cooking corrects the process as it cooks, which helps keep results the same across shifts and load sizes.
  • You need gas. Gas ChefTop models are in the Plus and X ranges, not One. Our guide to gas and electric combi ovens covers how to decide.

When should you choose ChefTop One?

One suits a kitchen that knows what it cooks and has someone who knows how to cook it. You still get steam, humidity control and automatic washing, without paying for automation you won't use. Choose it if:

  • Your menu is settled. Set each dish once, save it as one of the 384 programs and repeat it.
  • An experienced chef runs the oven. One does what it's told. It doesn't choose the cooking for you or correct it along the way.
  • You cook one thing at a time. Without MULTI.Time, the oven isn't built around staggered dishes during service.

Frequently asked questions

Does the ChefTop One have CHEFUNOX?

No. CHEFUNOX automatic cooking is on Plus and not on One. On One you set the cooking yourself or use a program you saved earlier.

Does the ChefTop One have MULTI.Time?

No. MULTI.Time is only on Plus, where it manages up to 10 cooking processes at once.

Do ChefTop Plus and ChefTop One both clean themselves?

Yes. Both have Rotor.KLEAN automatic washing. Plus adds SENSE.Klean, which suggests the wash the oven needs.

Does the ChefTop One come in gas?

No. In the range ICE X supplies, ChefTop One is electric only. If you need gas, look at ChefTop Plus or ChefTop-X.

Where does ChefTop-X fit in?

ChefTop-X sits above both. It has a 16-inch screen and AI-driven programs, recognises food and takes voice commands. See the ChefTop-X range.

Can I try a ChefTop before buying in South Africa?

Yes. You can book a session at our demo kitchen in Randburg, Johannesburg, and cook your own dishes on the ovens you're considering. ICE X sells through a national dealer network, and we'll put you in touch with one.
